Double-bill ballet evening with “5 Tangos” by Hans van Manen and “Manoeuvre” by Juanjo Arqués

One ballet evening—two choreographic treasures. While 5 Tangos by Dutch choreographer Hans von Manen has been part of the repertoire of major companies around the world since 1977, Manoeuvre by Juanjo Arqués only premiered at Het National Ballet in Amsterdam in 2020. There are over 40 years between the two works, but they share a unique style.

In 5 Tangos with music by Astor Piazzolla, he drives the company into the vibrant rhythm and emotional intensity of this music with top-class dancing. The ballet in five scenes was inspired by the Argentine tango, without literal reference. The direct sensuality of the spirited dance leads van Manen into a longing, floating, and shimmering emotional world.

Premiere: 9.3. in the Oper Chemnitz and 15.3. 22.3., 8.5., 7.30 p.m.
